Fire Safety Facts

Recent research reveals that there are as many as 120,000 fires within the workplace every year.

Whilst arson remains a significant problem, most of the fires that occur are accidental and the primary cause is human error. As such, a small workplace fire can spread rapidly without the intervention of appropriately trained personnel.

Fire & Rescue crews attend over 30,000 workplace fires annually, but the majority of workplace fires are fought successfully with portable fire extinguishers.

IFEDA survey results showed that 70% of workplace fires were successfully extinguished by fire extinguishers and that they were effective in extinguishing small fires and preventing them from developing into major ones.

The main objectives of our training courses are to prevent an outbreak of fire and to minimise the damage should a fire occur - thus safeguarding employees, the workplace and the business from danger and destruction of fire.

Employees need to know how to prevent a fire and what to do if one occurs. This includes employees working without normal hours, shift workers and lone workers.

Induction training must be provided for all employees and ongoing training provided at regular intervals, preferably twice a year as recommended by the HSE.
