Fire Risk Assessments

Managing Fire Safety within your premises

Good management of fire safety is essential to ensure that fires are unlikely to occur, and if they do occur that they are likely to be controlled or contained quickly, effectively and most of all safely. In a situation where a fire does occur and continues to grow, everyone within your premises should be able to escape to a place of safety easily and quickly.

Your fire risk assessment will also identify any issues that require attention and will confirm whether your fire precautions and prevention measures are adequate for your premises.
The enforcing authority have the power to inspect your premises and to check that you are complying with the current legislation; they will also require proof that you have an adequate Fire Risk Assessment for the premises.

If the enforcing authority is dissatisfied with the outcome of your fire risk assessment or the action you have taken, they may issue an enforcement notice that requires you to make certain improvements, or in extreme cases a prohibition notice, that restricts all or part of your premises until improvements are made.

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A fire risk assessment is a methodical look at your premises, the activities carried out there and the likelihood of a fire breaking out that could cause harm to those in and around the premises.

The main aims of the Fire Risk Assessment are as follows:
  • To identify the fire hazards
  • To reduce the risk of those hazards causing harm to as low as reasonably practicable
  • To decide what physical fire precautions and management arrangements are necessary to ensure the safety of people in your premises should a fire break out

If you are an employer, or have control over part of a building, you are required by law to carry out a fire risk assessment - a process which can be extremely complex and confusing.

Our fully qualified and experienced risk assessors can select the most appropriate assessment process for you and also give expert advice on any remedial actions that may be required after your assessment has been carried out. Please get in touch with us to arrange a comprehensive fire risk assessment.
